Ayurveda: The science of life
In Sanskrit, ayur
means life and veda knowledge or
science. Ayurveda, a milliner Indian medical
system, is a science of life.
Ayurveda is the most holistic medical system
which humanity owns today.
What does holistic means? This means Integral.
Ayurveda considers a person as an organized
entirety and not as the sum of its components.
The mind, body and spirit are unified at conscience
level and have direct reciprocal effects.
Ayurveda, believes since thousands of years
that thought and behavior highly influences
on health and disease of human beings. This
is why Ayurveda is not only a medicine but
also a living philosophy. |
Doshas
In Ayurveda, world splits
into three doshas or vital energies: Vata,
Pitta
and Kapha.
The three doshas result from the combination
of five elements: Space, Air, Fire, Water
and Earth.
|
Vata
The root VA, in Sanskrit, means movement.
Space and air predominate for Vata individuals.
Vasha dosha attributes are: dry, light, mobile,
cold, rough and fast.
Dry attribute gives them a dry skin, dry hair,
hard voice; they are slim, have tendency to
be constipated, and to be sweat less.
"Mobile" attribute allows them
to be active, creative, innovative, and they
often change their mind.
"Cold" attribute gives them high sensitivity
to cold; their extremities are often cold
and they have a predisposition to rigid body
articulations. |
|
Pitta
Fire and a bit of water predominate for the
Pitta dosha individuals.
Pitta attributes are: hot, subtle, pungent,
liquid and slightly unctuous.
Predominating Pitta individuals have a mid
size body appearance; they have a soft skin,
warm, sensitive, with sprinkles, thin hairs,
few grey hair and premature baldness.
They are physiologically strong, have strong
digestion and appetite, and get angry when
not eating on time. They cannot stand the
sun, neither heat excess.
They are lively, have an excellent understanding
of concepts, are good talkers and leaders,
and are enthusiastic. |
|
Kapha
Earth and water predominate with Kapha individuals.
Kapha attributes are: unctuous, dense, firm,
slow, stable, heavy, soft and fresh.
Predominating Kapha individuals are robust
and solid. They have powerful muscles and
are vigorous. They tend to take weight.
Unctuous attribute gives them soft skin and
thick hair.
Slow attribute allow them to have a slow digestion.
They speak slowly and have slow movements.
Kapha individuals are slow but reliable.
They do not get angry easily, but when they
loose temper, they struggle to forget.
They are strong in public relations and are
tolerant. |

Balance:
Health and Bliss
Each individual has a unique doshica composition
or prakruti in which predominates one of the
three doshas, although we all own the three
in distinct proportions.
To reach a harmonious natural state, the doshas
must be balanced; this does not mean that
the three need to be at the same level, but
rather need to be balanced according to the
prakruti or doshic constitution which is unique
to each individual.
Balance brings health and bliss and, it is
then, when beauty really shows up.
